Have you ever thought that coffeehouses have a definite meaning? Chapter 6 by Tom Standing makes you think about the social media evolution of coffee houses. Standage emphasizes the importance of coffeehouses especially back in the 1600s, such as England. It's mind blowing to think how coffeehouses meant a threat to the government as a form of propaganda. It's not like people went to coffeehouses to drink only coffee but it was to discuss pamphlets and circulating news. And coffeehouses were sometimes the only way people knew what was going on.
What amazes me is to think abut how powerful coffeehouses were to the people. As standage points out, coffeehouses also stood as a symbol of post offices, where people took advantage of the opportunity to check for new mail and send mail as well.
Now it makes me think of how coffee shops are now. and what they really stand for? I mean it's a great tool for businesses to come meet and discuss ideas. What a evolution huh?
