Just Winging It

We may think it's just a hashtag, but it holds more power than we think. Hashtag activism also known as social activism is the act “ where individuals can fight or advocate for an important cause through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other networking sites” by using a political hashtag to spread a message. It’s also important to state that hashtags activism can include: the hashtag being written on posters, individuals responding  with a certain action in relation to the hashtag such as #theASLIceBuckettChallenge, where celebrities and individuals around the world challenged others and engaged by throwing an ice of bucket on their heads for an important cause.   We have seen other forms of international hashtag activism that appeared in our media outlets such as #BringBackOurGirls where individuals around the world took photos of holding papers with this written hashtag, to advocate 276 schoolgirls that were abducted by Boko Haram ...

  Our class lecture last week we began to discuss commercials ads, specifically coca-cola commercial ads. Coca-Cola is known to have the largest companies where they are known for their advertising and commercials all over the world. It truly made me think about what do commercials really mean? Is there a meaning behind it? Can we find any issues behind that certain commercial. But it made me go into depth of how far a company is willing to go to market themselves even if it brings up ethical issues.  It also made me think about how companies such as Coca-Cola use strategic ways to include celebrities to market their company. For example to use a certain celebrity such as Selena Gomez, who is a Latina actress to advertise for their hispanic campaign. It made me think about how Coca-Cola markets themselves to the Latino Community, but having a famous Latina singer take a picture with a Coca-cola bottle with her lyrics on it.   But of all, it made me think about ...
