Ah the ultimate golden question, “Why am I so hooked on my phone and social media websites?” Let’s quickly take a small test. Do you check your cell phone more than 12 times a day? Do you use your cellphone when you are at dinner? What about when you’re on an outing with your friends? What about the best one yet. Do you use your cellphone on the train?
The one problem is that we base our lives around our cellphones. For an interesting test as a survey, count how many people are on their cellphones on the train and better yet- for how long.
We depend on our phones to tell us the time, the weather, map locations, alarms, emails, dating and social networking sites. Or google to ask the stupidest questions (it’s okay, we know you did it at least once, we are all a victim to it). But I mean, how many of us first wake up in the morning and grab our phones or go to bed staring at our phones for hours in the dark?
Adlerman brings up a shocking discovery, that in a “2016 study published in the journal psychology of Popular Media Culture, 70 percent of women revealed smartphones were negatively affecting their primary relationship”

- Making your home “ a free zone cell phone area” or bedroom
- Taking a break and timing yourself when you feel like you are using your cellphone for too long
- Limiting your phone at least 3 hours before you sleep
- Creating certain times in which you check your cell phone
But other factors can play a role on influencing cell phone addiction. Almost every company focuses on how they can promote their brand through social media at some point. Even current and upcoming companies, implement marketing aggressively through social media platforms now, forcing users to use their cellphones. I guarantee at some point when you are shopping at a retail shop and you may eventually hear,
“If you go on your cell phone right now and sign up, you can get 15% or if you give us your email we can send you an email with directions to sign up or do you have our app?”.
However this addiction with our cellphones has to go!
Come up with ways to restrain using your cellphone so frequently. Keeping a small journal to track how many times a day you use your cellphone can be useful and can show you if you suffer from being addicted to your cell phones too.
How about a task, next time when you have dinner.. try not going on your cell phone.
Until next time, I believe in you.
